Established in 1890, Akron Children’s Hospital was ranked one of the best children’s hospitals in the country in 2006. It is the largest pediatric care provider in northeast Ohio. SoundCom had the opportunity to equip the hospital with the latest in nurse-patient communication technology. With over 400,000 patients a year communication between the staff and the patients is an integral part of patient satisfaction.
The facility features a 253 bed pediatric unit as well as a regional burn center for both adults and children all integrated with a Rauland RespnderIV and a ResponderNET nurse-patient communications system designed and installed by SoundCom Systems. ResponderNET maximizes staff performance and patient care by integrating wireless communication, staff assignments, and patient whiteboards into a user-friendly PC interface.
SoundCom outfitted the staff with wireless pagers which allow the staff to know immediately that they are needed in a patient’s room or other room in the facility. We also equipped the staff with tracer tags which helps the staff locate a nurse or doctor in the area. This will eliminate the need for paging and drastically cut down on the noise level in the unit.
