Mercy Health recognized the need to build a new, innovative, world-class medical campus to replace two aging hospitals in the area. In November of 2013, Mercy West Hospital was opened and Mt. Airy Hospital and Western Hills Hospital relocated to the facility. This new hospital incorporates the latest developments in hospital design, technology, and comprehensive care.
Facility Wide Integration Mercy West Hospital required a facility wide communication and workflow system that would maximize efficiency throughout the new 250-bed acute medical center. In response, SoundCom installed the Rauland Responder 5 Nurse Call System, a core integration platform for a wide range of systems.
The Responder 5 Nurse Call System included integration with wireless phones that allow healthcare providers to understand a patients’ need before visiting the room, and a real time locating system (RTLS) making it quick and easy to find and locate staff members as well as assets. In addition, pillow speakers with temperature control, audio bath stations, enhanced patient stations, and hundreds of staff workflow terminals were part of the installation.
Customized Staff Terminals Every patient room and operating room is equipped with fully customized staff terminals configured to match the exact patient workflow requirements. These dynamic staff terminals feature large, color touch screen displays, interfaced to mobile devices for full two-way communication.
Customization automates patient workflow triggers enabling staff members to respond with pre-defined, intelligent information. These custom triggers help eliminate lost time, driving response times and patient satisfaction levels up.
Locator Integration SoundCom integrated the Rauland Responder 5 Nurse Call System with a Versus real-time locator system. This system tracks both staff members and equipment assets, delivering real-time location information. In addition, the system was configured with a panic button allowing staff members to summons help right from their personal locator badge.
By integrating Versus technology with the Responder 5 Nurse Call System, hospital management can monitor response times from patient generated calls and enable the nurse call system to automatically route patient calls to an immediate-care nurse with virtually no manual intervention. This places the focus on patient care, not system operation.
Advanced Reporting With the Rauland Responder 5 Reports Manager, nurse management has unprecedented access to a number of advanced reporting and software tools aimed at discovering patient workflow efficiencies and correcting problems that may otherwise not be visible. These reports include detailed information such as hourly rounding, staff time at bedside, staff performance, and unit/room activity reports.
